Bird song chandelier, modelled after bird song sound waveforms. The concept was developed while I was at the est-nord-est residency in Quebec. I found wave forms at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Macaulay Library and used only the songs of Oregon residents. It was partly inspired by a dream I had where I could see the songs of birds scratch into the sky... also, Multnomah Falls. The entire piece was engineered and each individual wave form was created in blown glass by Ian Gilula at Elements Glass. Internally lit by LED light, the full length of the chandelier is 30 feet and it hangs down the center of a spiral stairwell at the Nines Hotel in Portland, Oregon. |
